South Metro Weather provides forecast information and severe weather coverage for North-Central Texas.

Kevin Crouch started Ellis County Weather as a Twitter account in October of 2015. Two months later, in December, a tornado struck near Midlothian, Ovilla and Glenn Heights - and the ECW Twitter page was inundated with requests for updates. Kevin expanded his operation to Facebook a few days later, and the page became instantly popular with its local forecast updates and live severe weather coverage. Over the years, SMW’s Facebook following has grown to over 40,000 people - including local community leaders and first responders.

Kevin’s severe weather broadcasts draw thousands of viewers and serve as a unique source for real-time storm coverage from the moment the storm arrives to when it leaves the county.

In 2021, Kevin founded Ellis County Weather, LLC, and in March 2023, rebranded to South Metro Weather and expanded to include Hill, Johnson and Navarro Counties in his coverage. Throughout Kevin’s weather career, many in these nearby counties have expressed interest in his content - and similar dismay with the same kind of lackluster coverage by Dallas media market stations. Kevin felt he could expand his work to cover these areas, also, which already proved helpful two days later when severe weather impacted the area. While Ellis, Hill, Johnson and Navarro represent the core counties in SMW’s coverage area, nearby counties are often included as well.

Kevin lives near Waxahachie with his wife Terri, and their sons Charlie and Jensen. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Waxahachie CARE Services.
